Successful Chicago real estate developer Spencer D’Angelo will do anything for his family. Well, almost anything. When it comes to his younger sister's best friend, curvy blonde bombshell Harper Mitchell, all bets are off. Spencer is inexplicably drawn to Harper, but he’s never trusted her. Things just don’t add up. Harper’s trouble with a capital T, even if the rest of his family doesn’t see it, and adores her.
A California native, Harper unexpectedly finds herself jobless and homeless after the Feds raid the real estate firm she’s been working for. When her bestie’s brother, Spencer, the sexy, arrogant Italian who’s starred in way too many of her late night fantasies, begrudgingly offers her a place to stay in Chicago, she jumps at the chance to escape the chaos and darkness that have overtaken her life.
Harper and Spencer have traded insults and barbs from a distance for years, but now they can’t avoid each other. As their scorching chemistry ignites, Spencer becomes protective of her and Harper discovers there’s more to Spencer than his polished, business persona.
How can they continue on as the rivals they’ve always been? What will happen when Harper’s secrets finally catch up with her?
Trigger warning for mentions of alleged child sexual assault, mentions of suicide, and attempted sexual assault on-page.
He felt a rush of conflicting emotions when he heard women squeal from the hallway. Harper had arrived. Dread, excitement, lust, and apprehension warred inside him. Man up, idiot. She’s just a woman. What’s wrong with you?
Before he knew it, Spencer’s office was filled with energized, cackling women – his mother, Ariana, a very pregnant Bethany, his Executive Assistant Eve, and the notorious Harper.
And damn if Harper didn’t look sexy as fuck dressed in a royal blue lapel button dress that ended just below the knee. The dress gave the illusion of a single-breasted suit jacket with two white buttons secured just beneath the luscious globes of her breasts. Her golden locks fell in waves around her shoulders, and her white stilettos completed her professional, yet alluring look. His dick took notice, twitching in his pants.
Cole approached Harper immediately, greeting her with a warm handshake that didn’t sit well with Spencer, while the ladies chatted happily around him. Cole then hung back as if watching a movie play out in front of him. All that was missing was popcorn. Jerk.
Harper focused her baby blues on him, and his breath hitched. He stood frozen in place as she approached him with an air of confidence he respected.
“There he is, the master of all he surveys,” Harper teased. She just couldn’t seem to help herself around him.
Her hands trembled as she straightened his tie. Was she nervous? Aroused? He felt the heat of her fingers beneath his white dress shirt. It was uncomfortably arousing, surrounded by so many people, including Spencer’s mother.
“Spence, don’t you look dapper today?” She smiled brightly, showing off her adorable dimples. His body reacted in spite of the chaos around him. What was it about her? Damn it.
A smirk curved his lips. “And don’t you look as fetching as ever?” She wanted to play? He’d happily oblige.
Harper’s breathing hitched and her pupils dilated, surprising the shit out of Spencer. She couldn’t possibly be attracted to him. They disliked each other, didn’t they?
She hesitated a moment, as if at a loss for words. “Thank you for noticing,” Harper whispered.
