Abandoned at three—whose parents want a kid who sees ghosts?—I learned the world is quick to punish misfits. I try my best to be a normal, boring human, but the call of the supernatural just won’t be ignored.
When a stranger shows up on my doorstep in the middle of the night, it’s no sexy tryst. Instead, I’m off to the graveyard, digging up the corpse of a murder victim at the demand of the local vampire coven—and that small felony is just the start.
The spirit of the woman has gone missing, something that shouldn’t be possible, and everyone is looking to me for answers. There's Kase, a vampire who’s both terrifying and secretive. Grant, a mage with a bad attitude and a lot of power. Troy, the possessive werewolf-detective next door and Hunter, a mysterious bad boy who isn’t even close to human.
It’s a race not just against time but against everything to figure out where the spirits are going, who’s behind it and if I can trust the men who now share my bed.
And all because of a little grave robbing…
I am a pretty open person, but there are a few things that most people don’t know. They aren’t all pretty, but here we go!
I have ADHD. I was diagnosed in my thirties, and it was one of the best things to ever happen to me. Since then, I’ve been passionate about advocating for people with ADHD and educating others about it.
I am terrified of escalators. I was at Universal Studios when I was a kid, and for those who haven’t been there, they have huge sets of escalators that connect the upper level from the lower level. I was going down one when, at the bottom, my shoelace was sucked up by it. I couldn’t get free, and people kept tripping over me. My dad was able to break the lace to free me, but ever since then, I have to jump over the top or bottom of them by holding the railings and swinging over.
I don’t like my food to touch. I separate most of my food. My husband laughs endlessly when I eat ice cream sandwiches because I eat the top layer, then the ice cream, then the bottom layer. I also prefer all the food in a meal to be all the same color
My dog has EPI. I spend a lot of time trying to get my dog to eat and gain weight because he has a condition known as EPI which causes him to not have the right enzymes to break down his food. He is also a drama queen who is usually hand fed his meals because I want him to eat.
I love rock climbing. I am a huge fan of rock climbing! I haven’t been in a while since the local gym shut down during covid, but bouldering is my jam. At the height of my obsession, I climbed five or six times a week. I have never climbed outside because, well…scorpions.
I am a Starbucks addict. I admit it, I love Starbucks. I won’t pretend their coffee is the best, but there is some part of my psyche that loves the routine of going, of getting a drink, of the entire atmosphere. I honestly think I enjoy going more than I enjoy the drink.
I am a huge fan of bullet journals. I use my bullet journal every day and spend way too much making it look nice. However, my ADHD just purrs when it comes to being able to set up a planner. I get to change it whenever I want and am not constrained to the way someone else thinks I should plan.
I started out writing fanfic. Before I was published with original work, I spent two years writing fanfic. It was mostly smut, but I learned so much from it! It gave me the chance to realize I could do this, that I could write and people would enjoy it. I will forever be thankful to the fanfic community for giving me the confidence to pursue my passion.
I love gaming. I have been playing video games since I was a kid. I remember playing Doom and Wolfenstein 3D. Hell, I was obsessed with Duke Nukem 3D for years. More recently, my loves are Fallout, Mass Effect, Skyrim and Horizon Zero Dawn. I tend to be an all or nothing player. I either hyperfocus on a game, replay it a million times and know all the lore, or I play for a few minutes then give up.
I curse like you wouldn’t believe. So this is one that many people don’t realize about me. Because I’m able to control it when I need to—I’ve never let it slip during PTA meetings—and I can be extremely friendly, people seem shocked the first time they hear my five-foot valley girl ass cursing in the most creative ways. However, anyone who is around me much realizes that my mouth is filthy. This wasn’t as big of a problem before zoom, because now I have to constantly catch myself so a class full of fourth graders don’t learn some new words their parents wouldn’t appreciate.
“Are you telling me you’re a poltergeist?” I asked.
Hunter chuckled as he shifted his hand so he could stroke the inside of my wrist. The touch was innocent—he wasn’t rubbing anything intimate—and yet I could feel it rush through me as if his fingers were between my thighs. “What do you think?”
“I’ve never seen a poltergeist act like you.” I frowned as I tried to make my brain work despite how he crowded me and made me want to press against him. “And you weren’t able to enter my house without my invitation. Plus my secretary could see you, so no.”
He traced my bottom lip with the tip of his warm tongue, and I tasted flames. “You don’t invite poltergeists into your bed?”
“I didn’t invite you.”
“You did, just not with words.”
“That’s what people with boundary issues say.”
His lips curled into a grin before he bit down softly on my bottom lip, a sting of pain that made me arch up, that made me press my pelvis to him in a blatant and desperate offer. So, he wasn’t wrong.
I did want him, more than I might have ever wanted anything else.
