Skyâs crush on her best friend has always been unrequited⊠until theyâre stuck in quarantine together and sparks fly.
Skyâs high school bestie is moving back to the area and staying with her for a few weeks. Easy, right? Not when sheâd held a torch for the woman since high school. The moment Mia walks through Skyâs door, those unrequited feelings return full-force. So, when a spreading virus keeps them confined in Skyâs apartment even longer, Sky is screwed.
Mia returns home after a bad breakup, but Sky is the only one who offers a safe place to land. However, the seven years they spent apart has her looking at her best friend through a different lens, attraction sparking with every inside joke, shared dinner, and cuddle on the couch.
That flare of desire fast turns physical. They canât get enough of each other. Yet, whenever Mia tries for the âwhere is this goingâ talk, Sky dodges. Sky lost her sister in high school, and ever since, sheâs become ace at keeping dates at a distance. Yet if she doesnât manage to push past her own fears, she might lose her one shot at happiness with the woman sheâs waited a lifetime for.
Mia crawled closer, the view of her lace-covered breasts even better as she virtually climbed onto Skyâs lap. She swallowed hard, hoping the woman couldnât hear the motorcycle rev of her heart.
âI guess over the past few years?â she said, trying to distract herself from the way Mia crouched right before her, knees dug into the cushion. âOnce I started getting inked, I didnât want to stop.â
âI donât have any myself,â Mia said, her voice slow and deliberate. âBut Iâve always found tattoos sexy.â
The air may as well have evacuated the room. Miaâs dark eyes filled with curiosity and an intent Sky couldnât quite discern, one that made her throat dry. Sky couldnât focus on anything but the woman before her, the movie playing in the background long forgotten. Miaâs curves had gotten more pronounced with time, the freckles evident on her cheeks, and the Sagittarius pendant Sky had gotten her years ago still on a cord around her neck.
Sky reached out before she could help herself, her fingers pinching down on the hammered brass surface of the pendant. âDidnât think youâd still have this.â
âI never take it off,â Mia said as she shifted her weight on top of Skyâs lap.
Oh hell. The reality of Mia sitting on her lap made her reel, warm legs pressing down on either side and that gorgeous body inches from her. She resisted the urge to wrap her arms around Miaâs waist and dive in for her lips the way sheâd been longing to for years now.
Setting is always a vital part of the process when I start a new book, and Iâm notorious for using real cities and towns. One thing I love to do when possible is use settings Iâve visited, or even go scout locations. However, when I started to write Confined Desires, I was in quarantine, which severely limited my ability to scout out places. Iâve done a lot of books in the Philly area because I live in the âburbs, but I had never done a book featuring areas of Delaware, even though with the proximity, itâs an easy drive and Iâve been there plenty. That cemented my decision because I could picture the pre-quarantine scenes well.
The further into the book I got, the less a lot of the external setting mattered since a lot of it takes place within the confine of Skyâs apartment, yet I felt like it was easier to capture the types of people in the area, since it was one I was familiar with already. And after choosing to make Delaware my prime focus, that cemented the decision for the series to revolve around a promise Sky, Aubrey, and Kyle all make to each other on their yearly Rehoboth Beach trip, a fantastic LGBT-friendly beach in Delaware.
While a lot of times either big cities or made up towns get featured, I adore being able to shed some light on the smaller cities and towns along the East Coast, and Confined Desires let me explore some of the things I love about the area. Even though I wrote this in the middle of a lockdown, it was far too easy to mentally meander through spots along Wilmingtonâs Riverfront and the local parks in the area.
So, when you dive into Confined Desires, take note of the locations, and if youâre ever in the Wilmington area, make sure to stop by some of the same places Sky and Mia did. You wonât be disappointed!
