Beautifully written. It touches the heart, and stirs emotions.
It’s the 1940’s in rural East Tennessee, Appalachian country. For most everyone there is only work, and possibly church, if there’s one nearby. People rise before the sun is up, work hard, go to bed early, and rest in church on Sunday. Little chance for much else to happen. Right?
So, why would keeping one little secret for over sixteen years be so important? What could possibly have happened that could change the lives of so many people, if the secret were to be revealed?
There are only three people alive that know the answer to that question. For now.

WOW~ I don't know where to start. I love books about the past, even before my time.
This book starts in 1940 with the most loving family. You will fall in love with all of the
characters and detest the violence of the villain! I loved the way they lived, how they built,
their schooling, attending Church, how they cooked and ate. There's even a couple of amazing Recipes in the book as the girls were learning to cook dinner. There are so many "happy, feel good" moments in the book, then a bit of sadness when things take a turn. There's a beautiful surprise ending as
everything wraps up. No cliffhangers, that said, I'm dreaming of a sequel anyway. I want to
go back to these characters. I will be reading this book again. There isn't many I will read a
second time. I do not do spoilers but I seriously think you will love this book of life in East
Tennessee back in the40's, 50's. I immediately bought the authors second book!

Tragedy sets the stage for the lives of four young Appalachian country children in Sarah’s Song by Vicky Whedbee. As they flee their burning farmhouse where they realize their parents have died, they are forced to make their way across the cornfield to where they know they will be loved and cared for – their grandfather’s house. Meanwhile, a young Native American family is trying to get to the Cherokee reservation but are caught in a storm, leaving their young son at the mercy of a mean man.
Vicky Whedbee cleverly fast-forwards through the stages of the children’s lives, relating important events and occasions, adding more characters and developing relationships. The town, Hurricane Holler, also changes and people show their neighborly spirit. The one thing that there is in abundance is love, closely followed by a deep and basic faith, but both are needed to offset some of the heartache that inevitably comes along in life. The family grows and their determination remains a positive factor, even when life isn’t as fair as one would like it to be.
Sarah’s Song is a touching, wonderful look at the resilience of youth when there is love and nurturing, in spite of the trials and tribulations a family may experience. Vicky Whedbee writes beautifully, capturing the colloquialisms of the rural area and also delving deep into the souls and spirits of the characters, most of which possess a special gift. Funny, sad, thought-provoking and inspiring, Sarah’s Song celebrates basic values and touches your soul as you read, making you think about what is really important in life. A wonderful story.

I loved it! It brought out many emotions throughout the tale. Well written and held my attention. I could see the characters in my mind and hear their voices and the way they spoke due to the creative writing Vicky applied. I was sad for Sarah as she had to instantly become the mother figure and grow up very fast. But it also spoke volumes to just how good a job her mother did to prepare for the real world and teach her the essentials. Not everything turns out how we want it to be or how we feel it should be, but with God as your co-pilot, this world and its trials, woes, and abuse is just turbulence that shakes you but will never break you. I also loved the sweet prayers in the beginning! Well done.

This is the second book written by Vicky Whedbee, and I can't wait for her to finish her third book as I will definitely be reading it! Sarah's Song grabbed at my heart the minute I started reading it, and I couldn't put it down. Vicky is a great storyteller and I felt that I was right there with the characters. Thanks, Vicky! Keep the books coming!!!

This is a great read. The author makes you care about the characters. Do not think that it is all feel good just like life it takes a turn and you will find yourself wanting to rush to end of the book to find out on things turn out (don't do it). It is well written and you will not want to stop reading until you get to the end.

This book is wonderful! At times I cried and even chuckled a little. Vicky is one of the most refreshing new writers to come along in a while. I loved her first book, "THINGS HE HADN'T TOLD HER", but this one is very different. and beautifully written! Both are real to the area, but very different settings. Having lived in the South all of my life, I found that the language was very true to the time. Loved the ending!!!
