Standing up, she wipes her chin, and tosses her long black hair, then saunters away.
At FBI headquarters, Gerry examines the case files of 18 wealthy men, dead, with few clues, no DNA, and no leads...
When predator and prey become one, no one is safe.
Capital Thirst is my first novel. When I wrote this, I didn’t tell a single sole I was writing a book. I’m not sure why, but I just didn’t want anyone to know. I think part of it was I was afraid I wouldn’t finish or maybe I thought people would think I’m crazy once I told them it was about vampires.
What I wasn’t ready for was my wife’s reaction when I told her I’d finished writing a book. She was mad as heck with me. I hadn’t told her I was doing this. I kept this huge secret and hadn’t shared it. I learned my lesson and now I tell her when I’m working on a new book.
Another interesting thing is I wrote all of Capital Thirst between 4:00 am and 5:00 am. I would get up early and write before I headed off to work. At the time my children were small, and that was the only alone time I had. Fortunately for me I’m a morning person. I said at the time my children were young. They are all off in college and after I finished Capital Thirst and just sat on it.
While Capital Thirst was sitting safe on my hard drive, I wrote Beverly Hills Torture followed by Moscow Nights. After keeping Capital Thirst hidden for all that time, I decided I would do something about it and share it with the world. That was a huge scary step, but I’m so happy I made it.
When I started making the final edits on Capital Thirst, I found myself I rewrote the first kiss scene like twenty times. One time they kissed, the next they almost kiss, back and forth over and over. It was just a kiss, but what did it mean. I just couldn’t decide. It came to the point I was sick of thinking about it and made a choice and went with it. Such a simple thing and it was maybe the most difficult decision in the book.
The other thing I never expected was when I posted Capital Thirst to a book critique site. A flame war erupted over what a vampire is. People have very different opinions and there were a good number that felt vampires are pure evil and can’t have emotion. If you read Capital Thirst, you realize that’s not my opinion. There is also the Anne Rice camp that feel vampires are rich with emotion. I didn’t realize I was opening such a can of worms. I kept Erin just the way she was a confused mix of emotions. A blend of evil with a desire for something else.

Lullaby
Erin placed Mary back in the crib. A sigh escaped her lips, and her arms hung limply at her sides. Erin felt her chest tighten. What could she do to change things? She was a vampire. There was no going back.
She was a killer. No matter how much she wanted to be a mother, she was nothing more than a vengeful killer, and she needed to remember that before she hurt someone.
Gerry touched her elbow then led the way downstairs.
“She was so comfortable with you. You must love children.”
“She’s beautiful. You’ve no idea how lucky you are. I would give my life to have a child.” Erin’s voice broke as she tried to speak.
Shocked, Gerry stopped and turned. “You’re young enough, nothing is stopping you.”
“Just this condition I have.” Now it was Erin’s turn to be sad. She fought back the tears.
“I need to go.” She needed to leave before tears ran down her cheeks. Her whole body ached for the chance to have a child, and she was denied that for eternity.

I voraciously read everything, fiction, and non-fiction but always find myself turning back to the darker stories. I’ve always wanted to write and the dream became a reality with Capital Thirst, and the remainder of the Erin Kingsly novels.
I spend most of my days designing and building websites, but my free time is devoted to my wife, family, and cats. Yes three grown children and three cats. Things can be hectic.
For fun you might find me driving winding roads with the top down or out photographing nature.

Blood suckers in DC and the FBI! Ha!
ReplyDeleteJen,
DeleteThey are among us. I've lived just outside of DC for the last 30 years and worked downtown for about 15 of those. What better place to have vampires.
