10 Fun Facts About Mysti and Starr (Wild Witches of Beaver Bay 1)
1. Many of my stories are set in New England. I have always loved the mountains of New Hampshire, which is why the Wild family’s cabin is located there.
2. Growing up, I knew several of my great aunts and uncles. They were among the most interesting people I have met in my life. Though the character Great Uncle Ambrose isn’t based on any particular one of them, I wanted a great uncle present in the Wild family.
3. Speaking of great aunts and uncles, I had a great aunt named Amelia, and that’s the name of Mysti’s cousin who is the heroine in the last Wild Witches of Beaver Bay book.
4. Wild Witches of Beaver Bay is the prelude to the Fangs and Fists series. In Fangs and Fists, there are small sections called “Thoughts from the Master’s Gazing Room” in which readers get insight to the demons who have taken over the world. In Wild Witches of Beaver Bay, each story has a prologue and an epilogue in which readers get insight to the overall plot through the eyes of two ghosts, Ruth and Jude Wild. Since Fangs and Fists offered peeks into the evil side of the paranormal world, I wanted to do the opposite in Wild Witches, so I offered a peek into the afterlife from the ghosts’ point of view.
5. The character Orion is introduced as a secondary character in Mysti and Starr. Though he’s on the “good” side, Orion can be nasty. One particular scene involving him was difficult for me to write because he triggered one of my biggest pet peeves--he was needlessly mean to a customer service worker. Currently, I’m working on Orion’s book and to me he leans more toward antihero than hero, which is fine because antiheroes are my preferred type of character.
6. In general I’m not a fan of country music, but Mysti and Starr love it, so I listened to it when writing their story.
7. When Starr tells Mysti that blood-drinking vampires really exist, she’s surprised because she thought only psychic vampires were real. Though it’s not revealed in this book, Starr has had positive experiences with blood-drinking vampires through Orion, who is one-quarter vampire.
8. Throughout my life, my family has always lived in close proximity and some of us even live in the same house. For as long as I can remember, everyone contributes to the house and are around to support each other. I often hear comments from people who don’t “get” that kind of arrangement and believe that families living together means that someone isn’t being responsible because no one would or should choose to live “at home.” In this story, I wanted to show a close-knit family--the Wilds--that chooses to stay together while still having their own lives, jobs, and friends. I also wanted to show that family doesn’t only have to include relatives, but good friends as well. That’s the type of family Starr grew up with. The Wild Witches books are erotic paranormal, but they’re also about family.
9. Mysti’s healthy cookies were inspired by delicious cookies of a similar kind one of my co-workers once made for a holiday celebration.
10. Amber, Starr’s mom, curses a lot, in particular when she’s annoyed. I don’t always put elements of myself into my characters, but in her case, I completely identify with feeling better by swearing when I’m angry.
I hope you enjoyed these fun facts.

“Starr, I don’t think I can do this. Not like this.”
Starr looked startled. “Do what? I’m not going to try to get you in bed, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“I’m not, and… you’re not?”
“No.”
“Oh.” Starr’s words took Mysti aback. Not that she expected him to want sex right then, but it would be nice if the man she was to spend the rest of her life with desired her.
“Was that what you’re worried about?” Starr asked.
“No. You’re not interested in sex?”
“Hold everything. I never said I wasn’t interested in sex. I said I’m not going to dive on a lady I just met.”
“Oh. That makes sense.” Starr was trying to be a gentleman, and maybe he was particular. Some men were, and he had no way of knowing --
“What’s wrong now?”
“Starr, stop doing that.”
“What?”
“Asking what’s wrong.”
“Did you want to go to bed? Is that the problem?” he prodded.
“There’s no problem.”
Starr raised an eyebrow and for the first time she realized that as much as she liked him, he already had traits that drove her crazy.
