In a fight between his past and present, this ruthless shifter is determined to claim his future.
Kayla has been trying to get Parker's attention for four months. She's not a fan of unrequited love or celibacy, so she's ready to move on. Perfect timing for an undercover mission into the Bitterroot Pack—enemy territory.
Parker's willpower has been carefully chipped away and he can't resist the sexy little wolf shifter any longer. Unfortunately, she's off to charm another man in the Rock Creek Clan's rival pack. His inner tiger is growling, prowling, urging him to claim Kayla as his mate.
And when her new position puts her in danger? Parker must overcome his past and be the man he never thought he could be—one worthy of the woman he loves. But if they can't fight through their issues, they'll both lose.
Ruthless Fighter is the third standalone novel in the Fierce Mates: Rock Creek Clan series. If you like shifter romances with naughty language, hot sexual tension, and reluctant heroes, you'll love this steamy, action-packed read.
I love these stories!!!
What I've always loved about Liza's books (among many other things) is how she creates these packs/clans and expertly weaves all of the various couples' stories together to form a cohesive, larger picture. Yes, each book involves a different couple, but their stories build on each other, and it's just so well done.
I had met Kayla and Parker in a previous book and wasn't really sure what to think of them. However, I decided that I really like Kayla. She has some serious self-doubt, but when the chips were down, she stepped up and showed some major bravery.
Parker also had self-doubt (and a really cool secret talent), and in true martyr fashion, he tried to stay away from Kayla, lest he ruin her. But, as fated mates go, they couldn't really be apart. I enjoyed reading how they finally found their way to each other.
All in all, holy cow, does this book have some steam, and I can't wait for the next one! I LOVE how this story is unfolding!!!

She was down to her bra and underwear when someone banged loudly at her front door. She marched to the door and sniffed the air, trying to get a hint of who it might be.
She smelled a tiger.
Was he messing with her? Why? Shaking her head, she pulled the door open. "What?"
Parker stood in front of her, his amber eyes glittering with anger. His jaw looked hard, like he was clenching it. "Did you throw rocks at my cabin?"
She held back a laugh and gave him a sweet smile. "Oh, sorry, did I disturb somebody's beauty rest?"
A low growl came from his chest. Kayla stepped back, suddenly remembering that she wasn't wearing all of her clothes. Nudity wasn't really an issue, especially since he very obviously didn't see her in any kind of sexual way, but she felt exposed all of a sudden.
"What's your problem?" Parker asked in a low voice.
His voice was rough like always, like a cat's tongue. Chills erupted over her body at the sound of it. What she wouldn't have given, just a few weeks ago, to hear that voice winding around her in the dark.
She put the imaginary leash on her inner wolf. No time for gamboling flights of fancy.
"My problem is that you don't respect the work I put in." She tried to inject as much venom as possible into her words. Then she added in a sweeter tone, "Also? You're an asshole."
His mouth fell open slightly, as if she'd surprised him. Good. But he recovered quickly, straightening up to his full height. He crowded her against the door frame.
Holy shit. He was huge. Her eyes were level with his chest. This was unfair—he was at an advantage. He was tall, and he had clothes on. Kayla's heart beat wildly in her chest, and her inner wolf strained at that mental leash, desperate to construct new fantasies.
"You're so sure you're right, then?" he asked.
"Heck yeah," she said. She didn't sound half as brave as she wanted to sound. In fact, she sounded more lusty than anything. And that was hardly fair. But Parker's proximity was igniting some very strong feelings, most of them originating from within the silk of her panties.
"Then maybe we should make a bet," he said.
She looked up into his hard, unyielding face. "Fine, let's make a bet. Because we won't find that sphere in the ravine. If I win, you have to..."
She thought for a moment. What was the worst thing for him? She remembered one night, a couple of months back, when Parker, Kayla, and a few of the other RCCers had gone to a club in Montlake, about forty minutes away. Everyone had been dancing—everyone except for Parker. What a boring stick in the mud.
"I got it," she said. "If I win, you have to go to that club in Montlake with me tomorrow night. And you have to dance."
"Fine." His amber eyes didn't even blink. "And if I win, do you know what you have to do?"
She inhaled a shaky breath. He was so close, she could feel the heat of him warming her to the core. If she leaned forward maybe half an inch, she could lick his pec through his t-shirt. If he wanted, he could pick her right up and press her into the door, and she'd wrap her legs around him and she would ride him like—
"Kayla?"
She reclaimed that leash on her inner wolf and shook her head. "Fine, what? What do I have to do if we find the sphere in the ravine?"
Maybe she'd have to kiss him. Maybe she'd have to spend the night with him. From the way he was looking at her, she wouldn't be surprised if he suggested something like that.
He smirked. Did he know what she had been thinking?
Then he said, "If I win, you have to remain completely silent. For twenty-four hours."
She pulled her hand back to slug his arm, but he grabbed her wrist and pressed her even harder against the door. He was hard—everywhere. If she wasn't mistaken, that was his boner pressing into her stomach.
In her imagination, something miraculous happened. She released the figurative leash and let her inner wolf go flying free. She put her hands on his shoulders and hefted herself up, hooking her legs around his waist. Before he could react, she pressed her mouth to his and kissed him.
But that was only her inner wolf wishing it were so. Instead, she let him step back so he could put distance between them once more. He turned around and left her half naked in her doorway.
Shaking, Kayla closed the door and leaned against it, facing the bright, shiny cabin that had only seconds ago been a place of peace. In about three seconds it was going to be her solo fantasy suite. But first, she opened her front door. Parker was walking back to his cabin.
"You know," she called at his retreating back, "I still think you're an asshole."

I am a TOTAL sucker for "long lost loves"
I am a total sucker for "long lost loves," "the one that got away," "you are my mate and I'll never let you go," etc. I was completely sucked in by this story, and at 25%-ish in, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see how Rex and Gemma reconnected. Liza, as usual, did an EXCELLENT job of writing the emotions these two felt for each other. I actually met this couple in a subsequent standalone book, but it was SO nice to learn their history. I LOVE Liza's books!!! |
One kiss. One lie. One dangerously sinful affair.
After making one bad decision after another, fox shifter Erena is back at the Rock Creek Clan with her tail between her legs. Her past mistakes seem to be forgiven, but her position feels tenuous—and more tenuous still, with the arrival of a sexy misfit who gets under her skin. Matt, a mountain lion shifter, returns home to the RCC with a giant secret only to meet the woman of his dreams. Too bad Erena has a chip on her shoulder. How the hell is he supposed to prove himself to a woman who has trust issues? He’ll have to figure something out, because between his smooth talking and his ulterior motives, he’s in danger of losing his mate before he ever gets a chance with her. Ruthless Misfit is the first standalone novel in the Fierce Mates: Rock Creek Clan series. If you like shifter romances with naughty language, sexy men who go after what they want, and real heroines with real flaws, you’ll love this steamy, action-packed read.
So many "awww!" moments!
What I liked the most about this book were all of those little moments; the stolen moments with Erena and Matt and the things he would say to her...so many feels! I'm such a sucker for this trope, the "fated mates" or soul mates or whatever you want to call it. When they just KNOW they are meant to be together. Love it. Matt was so endearing because he wasn't exactly what he seemed in the beginning, but once he found his mate, he did his darndest to be a better man. Lion. Oh, you know what I mean. But I especially liked Erena. I liked that she wasn't the typical happy, bubbly, outgoing heroine, but rather she was all "don't even talk to me, and while you're at it, get away from me" with everyone. She was jaded for sure, but starting with that darkness around her only made her transformation into who she became that much more satisfying. Not because she became outwardly happier, but because she was inwardly content. If that makes sense. I just love these clans that Liza has created, and I can't wait for more books!!! He has the power to enter the dreams of others.
She isn't afraid to act on his darkest desires.
Fox shifter Margot is content running her bakery, For Fox Sake Cupcakes, even if no one gives her a second thought--not her clan, not her parents. But when a sexy voice starts haunting her dreams, she starts craving more from her life, and more of the mysterious stranger.
When grizzly shifter Bryce arrives to help the Rock Creek Clan, his estranged brother's harsh reception is no surprise, but the presence of a gorgeous blond fox shifter is. Unfortunately, she seems pretty close to his brother, which makes her off-limits. When the clan needs to contact a mysterious witch living in South America, Bryce jumps at the chance to help out and escape Margot’s sexy smiles.
So, of course, the person accompanying him to South America is Margot...and she's posing as his wife.
Ruthless Outlaw is the second standalone novel in the Fierce Mates: Rock Creek Clan series. If you like shifter romances with naughty language, strong men, and smart heroines, you’ll love this steamy, action-packed read.
One heck of a sexy adventure!
I'm not a newbie when it comes to Liza's books, and the reason is that each one of her stories makes me want to read the next one, regardless of if it's in the same series, she's starting a new one, etc. She masterfully combines love, action, mystery, emotions and even some humor into her books.
Can I just say, I'm a TOTAL sucker for fated mates. That moment when a shifter is like BAM! smacked with the intense feeling that he has found his one and only. For me, the trope never gets old and I love reading all of the different ways Liza works that into her books.
One of the things I loved the most about this story was the "adventure" aspect of the story. Margot and Bryce were on a quest, and the magic and riddles they encountered along the way kept me glued to the pages!
Another thing I really loved was how Margot was; she was relatable in that she had self-doubt and insecurities, like we all do, but she was also strong and self-sufficient, like we all are. She knew when she could fight, but she also knew when she was outmatched and when to accept help. I wasn't bashed over the head with "I am woman, I don't need a man or anyone else ever!" like I have been in SO many other books.
Liza truly invents these amazing worlds in her series, and I am SO excited to see where this clan goes next!
