Challenge: Lose my virginity before my 24th birthday
Time Left: 23 days
Appletinis, a semi-meltdown, and a āLose My Virginity Challengeā post. Thatās all it took for my little blog to go viral.
The realization that Iām the lone virgin left from my clubās original pact ignited my not-so-genius idea. But what else could I do? With my two best friends happily un-single (and having plenty of sex), Iāve become an outcastāthe anti-Hester Prynne, walking the streets with a giant V attached to my chest.
Iām going to be fine. Iām anonymous. I can just delete the post and pretend it never happened. No big deal, right?
Wrong!
My co-worker crush, Loganāgorgeous, yummy and out of my leagueāfound out about my secret deadline-driven cherry popping quest.
Humiliated would be an understatement.
Fortunately, my besties come to the rescue with a brilliant plan that involves my trending blog. If all went smoothly, Iād not only win over the untouchable Logan but also live my dream of becoming a full-time writer.
The plan isnāt just brilliant, itās perfectā¦ until my new boss, Alexander Freeman comes into the picture with his Brooks Brothers suit and Tom Ford briefcase.
So what if the Stiff is hot? I will not ruin my one chance with Logan or my dream career.
But Iām in more trouble than I originally thought.
Turns out Alex has a few intentions of his own and a huge secret Iām totally unprepared for.
What inspired you to write The Virgin Club?
Itās funny, but it seems romance has this stigma that itās all about āheaving bosoms and throbbing penisesā. From the many I have read, romance is so much more than that. Books are about telling you what a character feels, both physically and emotionally. If a penis happens to throb at some point, thatās real. It happens.
The only thing I found some romance lacked was genuine women relationships.
My ultimate goal with The Club Series was to write swoon-worthy romantic comedies with a dose of girl power.
What do you mean by girl powerā?
I had one rule while writing my Club Series: Every female main character had to have at least one solid, kick-ass woman in their lives. Bestie, sister, mom, grandmother... whatever relationship represents the incredible bonds women can have.
If you could compare your story to a book or movie, which would you choose?
Bridget Jonesās Diary
Why?
Bridget Jonesās Diary was really a Fool Triumphant story (check out Save the Cat Writes a Novel for more detail), meaning she realizes that she is just fine the way she is and doesnāt need to change to be loved.
Emma is the modern-day Bridget Jones. She gets herself into comedic trouble. Falls for the wrong man at first, but then finds true love with the one she is meant to be with, and he loves her the way she isāwithout needing to change.
What makes your book different from Bridget Jones Diary?
Itās definitely more modern, involving the repercussions of the social media age. Her true love also has a huge secret and an interestingā¦ problemā¦ that even Mr. Darcy in Bridget Jonesās Diary would be shocked to learn.
You mentioned solid, kick-ass women in your characterās lives. Who are those women for you?
Iām very lucky to have quite a fewā¦ some not with us anymore, but the incredible women in my life were/are huge contributors to the woman that Iāve become. The one most near and dear to my heart is my grandmother. I miss her very much, and wish she was here to read my book. I believe she has, though, in spirit. I love you grandma.
Emma and her love interest have a family full of quoters. Which life quote do you love best?
Emmaās mom thought up a quote: You made a mistake. Nothing wrong with mistakes. Itās what you choose to do after you make them that defines who you are.
I love that quote.
Why?
I think people in general feel the need to be perfect their first go around. You can prep and plan until youāre face turns blue, but in life mistakes are inevitable. Sometimes we do things we regret. Donāt beat yourself up. Pick yourself up and see it as a learning experience. If you mess up, do your best to make it right the next time around. Apologize. Swallow your pride if you did something you regret.
Another great quote I loved was from Emmaās Great Grams: Forgiveness isnāt always a two-way street. It belongs to the one who is ready to pull the shift into drive and move on.
If someone canāt forgive you for your mistake, let it go. If youāve done everything you can to make it right and they wonāt budge, move on. No sense in trying to change things you canāt controlā¦ but you can control how you choose to react to situations.
If anything, what would you like readers to take away from your story?
Weāre all flawed and imperfect, but that doesnāt mean you arenāt beautiful and loved just as you are.

E: Logan knows Iām the author of The Virgin Club which means he knows about my stupid Virgin Challenge!!!
E: He was working at Freeman Foxx when I broke my nose. I told him it was me and I totally forgot I wrote a post about it.
L: OMG
J: Wow!
E: Yeah, been through that stage already. What the hell do I do now??? How can I go into work tomorrow and face him? Thatās it. Iām quitting my job. Hey Lauren, if I lose my apartment can I take your spare room?
L: Of course you can.
J: Youāre not quitting your job or moving out! Take a deep breath and letās take this one step at a time.
E: Ok. Iām semi-calm now. So whatās the first step?
J: Are you sure he knows itās you?
E: Yes, he sent me a message. It was definitely him and he obviously found the blog because my dumb Virgin Challenge post is trending.
L: Was his message flirty?
E: Yes, like he was teasing me with it.
J: Is he still with that obnoxious girl who needed a smack upside the head?
E: No. They broke up a few weeks ago.
J: Well this is interesting news :)
L: I can almost see the light bulb going on in your head lol.
E: Oh no. What?
J: Confession time. Do you still like Logan?
E: Iāve already been there. Iām not embarrassing myself again. Logan knowing Iām a virgin is bad enough.
J: Answer the question, Emma. Do you like him or not?
E: Yes.
J: Enough that you would welcome him ātaking on your over-expired V-cardā?
E: Yes, but I obviously suck at reading signals. I donāt even know if heās interested, single or not.
J: There are ways to get around that and they start with your blog.
E: My blog? No. Absolutely not.
J: FaceTime me. I think once you hear my plan, youāll change your mind :)
L: Count me in too! I am NOT missing this.
E: Ok, but it better be good.
J: Itās not good. Itās brilliant.

This looks so fun!
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, I had a blast writing it! I was going for a fun story most could read in a day or two and I ended up falling in love with the characters. But it's okay, I got to take one of them to star in my next book, and now I'm swooning. <3 ;)
DeleteEnjoyed reading the post. Thanks for sharing the excerpt.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope you like the story. :)
DeleteI love a good rom com. Its actually been a long time since I've read one or even seen a movie in this genre. Looking forward to a light read.
ReplyDeleteHi Katie, Come to think of it, I haven't seen a good rom-com movie in a while either, and I'm a bit of a film buff. I think the last one I saw was more YA rom-com - To All the Boys I've Loved Before. It was so cute and well done. I'll have to look up some to check out soon.
DeleteIf you're looking for a light and fun rom-com book. I think you'll enjoy The Virgin Club. :)
This looks like a fun book! Thanks for the spotlight!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Glenda. I'm grateful to Lauren for hosting it. :)
DeleteGreat excerpt! Can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteHi Judy, so glad you liked the excerpt and hope you like the full story just as much! ;)
DeleteP.S. I'm finishing up book two in the series (The Karma Book Club) and one of the sisters of the main character, Mia, is named Judy. She's the oldest and the mama bear sister. I can't see that name without thinking of her now. :)
Sounds great!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Leonie. And I have to say that I just put your name in my list of possible character names folder in One Note, I may just have to use it for a future character!
DeleteSounds like a fun read!
ReplyDeleteThanks Veronica, I hope you like it! :)
DeleteI loved reading the excerpt. This book sounds so good.
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks for the kind words! <3
DeleteLove the cover, I would love to read this book
ReplyDeleteHi Christina, I'm so happy you like the cover. I had a different one to start, but decided to go with this one. The book is available to borrow free through Kindle Unlimited. Hope you like it as much as the blurb/excerpt! :)
DeleteI love the idea of kick-ass women not only as support characters in the book but to have in real life. So important for besties!
ReplyDeleteIt really is. I am so lucky to have some incredible women in my life. They really helped to shape the woman I've become. Will always be grateful for them. <3
DeleteRomance and Comedy all-in-one...a must read for sure!
ReplyDeleteNothing like a good rom-com to make your day. I don't just write them, I'm also a fan of so many great authors in the genre! ;)
DeleteThank you for introducing me to this book.
