When the flood of a century strikes Aria’s hometown, an alienated Caleb is all that stands between her and catastrophic loss.
“You should think about going to the dance,” Aria said. “The town’s celebrating its bicentennial with street dances every Friday.”
Caleb shrugged. “I probably won’t go. I don’t know anyone, and it isn’t fun to go by yourself.”
Aria giggled. “I know a hint when I hear it. Okay, why don’t we go together?”
Caleb rapidly backtracked. “Hey, I wasn’t hinting or anything.”
Aria arched one eyebrow. “So you don’t want to go with me?”
“No, it’s not …”
“I promise not to bite.”
Was that a twinkle in her eyes? Was she teasing him? He grinned. “I guess if you did bite it wouldn’t matter. You’ve had your shots, right?”
“I gave them to myself.”
Caleb flashed another grin at her as he allowed himself to feel good about going to a dance with a pretty woman. He hadn’t been to a dance since long before he went to prison.
